After a late venue change threatened to disrupt preparations, the boys regrouped quickly and showed professionalism to get everyone to the correct venue. In muggy conditions on a difficult surface, this was a test of focus, resilience and leadership.


FIRST HALF – PATIENT AND DISCIPLINED

The match began evenly, with both sides organised and competitive.

30’ – Big Opportunity
From a corner, the AmaZulu keeper palmed the ball into the path of Nkosi, but he was unable to convert.

Then, deep into first-half stoppage time:

45’ GOAL – MPENDULO (1–0)
From a recycled corner, Devan delivered an excellent cross from the touchline. Mpendulo rose strongly at the back post and powered home with his head to give Riverside the lead at halftime.

SECOND HALF – RESPONSE AND AUTHORITY

Ten minutes into the half, a goalkeeper error presented an opportunity, but Riverside could not capitalise.

Moments later, AmaZulu broke on the counter, but Wah produced an excellent save to protect the lead.

75’ GOAL – AMAZULU EQUALISE (1–1)
AmaZulu found the top corner from the edge of the box to level the score.

The response was immediate.

⚽ 76’ GOAL – SERGE (2–1) (PENALTY)
Sustained pressure forced an intentional handball in the box.
Serge stepped up and converted confidently, taking his season tally to 20 goals.

Riverside took control from there.

82’ GOAL – BAYANDA (3–1)
From a throw-in deep in AmaZulu territory, George Klikon flicked the ball on intelligently at the near post, and Bayanda finished confidently at the back post to extend the lead. Bayanda has now scored in three consecutive matches.

⚽ 90’ GOAL – VAH (4–1)
After the AmaZulu captain was sent off for a second yellow, Devan delivered a free kick into the box. The goalkeeper misjudged it and Vah finished calmly to seal the match. Vah has now scored in three games in a row.

It was a strong all-round performance with a number of players standing out.

🛡 Defensive Unit – Another composed and disciplined performance at the back. Organised, strong in duels and calm under pressure.

Devan– Excellent in midfield. Controlled the tempo and was constantly dangerous going forward.

🎯 Mpendulo – Opened the scoring and delivered a complete performance. Worked tirelessly and influenced key moments.

🔥 Serge – On the scoresheet again. 20 goals for the season. Clinical and consistent.

Bayanda & Vah – Both on the scoresheet again. Three games in a row scoring. Form at the right time.

🌟 It was also encouraging to see our youngsters Miguel and Aphiwe get valuable minutes and contribute to the overall team energy.
